What’s the Difference Between Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 and LSS+2.5?
The main difference between Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 and Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 as of this day, February 1, 2021, is that the latest version of the standard Lexus safety suite of technology, LSS+ 2.5, is found only on the 2021 Lexus IS sedans. Of course, Lexus will no doubt be adding the latest system to the rest of the model line-up – check back for updates; if you want to hit the road with the latest in standard Lexus safety today, you’ll have to come in and test drive – or buy one of the gorgeous new IS sedans that we have available here at North Park Lexus Rio Grande Valley.
As a quick review, Lexus Safety System+ is the renowned safety-system suite that combines four advanced safety systems designed to help drivers and mitigate accidents. These key systems include alerting the driver to pedestrians and helping maintain a preset speed and following distance. Every new Lexus model comes standard with Lexus Safety System+, at the very least. Most of the 2021 Lexus models have already been updated to the newer Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 which adds even more – systems designed to detect and display road sign information and help keep your Lexus centered in its lane on highways, just to name a few of those extra features. Now, with Lexus Safety System+ 2.5, Lexus IS drivers (as of February 2021) get new functionality beyond those of LSS+2.0 and the original LSS+.
Comparing LSS+ 2.0 and LSS+ 2.5
Lexus introduced the latest version of its advanced safety suite of technology with the arrival of the 2021 Lexus IS sedan. When comparing the latest version of LSS+, the updates for 2.5 read as being significantly different, however, after closer examination, we can tell you that the main difference comes down to the enhanced functionality found on the Pre-Collision System (PCS). Along with the inclusion of LSS+ 2.5, new Lexus models with LSS+ 2.5 will come with Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert – both incredibly valuable systems. It is important to note, however, that most 2019, 2020, and 2021 Lexus models that Lexus Rio Grande Valley has available for sale (almost all of them if the Lexus originally came from our dealership) – and do not have LSS+ 2.5, will still come with these two safety features as added options. You can find out if your Lexus has Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert by looking at the window sticker of the vehicle or by easily asking one of our sales professionals at North Park Lexus RGV.
Pre-Collision System (PCS) Updates with LSS+ 2.5
In addition to the existing capabilities of the Pre-Collision System (PCS) to detect a vehicle, pedestrian, or cyclist ahead of the vehicle, LSS+ 2.5 introduces two new functions: Intersection Turning Assist and Emergency Steering Assist. Quick review time: the PCS is one of the key pillars of each Lexus Safety System+ suite. The PCS uses a monocular camera and forward millimeter-wave radar to help detect a vehicle or pedestrian in the Lexus vehicle’s path (under certain conditions) and, if it detects a potential front collision, the system will prepare with increased brake force or a complete stop of the vehicle – in some cases. The enhancements that come on LSS+ 2.5 are found on its camera and radar that help expand its response range and improved recognition of an oncoming vehicle or pedestrian when the driver is performing a left-hand turn at intersections.
Intersection Turning Assist
- Provides a warning – approximately 7 to 15 mph; and automatic braking – approximately 10 to 15 mph; if the driver turns left in front of an oncoming vehicle in the opposite lane
- Provides a warning – approximately 7 to 15 mph; and automatic braking – approximately 7 to 15 mph; if the driver turns left in front of a pedestrian crossing from the opposite direction
- The turning signal must be activated

Emergency Steering Assist
- Designed to help the driver in an emergency situation where the driver initiates an evasive steering maneuver by providing additional steering torque to enhance vehicle stability and prevent lane departure.
- Operating speed approximately 25 to 50 mph
- The system will not operate if the turn signal has been activated
